Pain with a Future

The hurt didn’t bother her. It was pain with a future.
— Elizabeth Bear; Two Dreams on a Train

I found this quote from my sister's collection of novels. She is notorious for reading just about everything, and judging the writing all throughout. I was really just skimming through the digital pile until I came across the collection of Elizabeth Bear, an author my sister highly respects. So I picked a title that seemed interesting, and that was in the first paragraph.

These short two sentences are beautiful, powerful, deep, and timeless. I didn't even read the rest of the story yet, so I can't say my use of the quote is how it's intended. This is purely how the quote impacted me. Anything you work towards will have painful moments, but your hard work will be meaningful.

Keep fighting onward.
